Agency: Parks and Recreation
The Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) is responsible for the City's parks urban forests and recreational facilities. The Department maintains the overall condition and cleanliness of park facilities, playgrounds, drinking fountains and showers, performs horticulture and forestry services, restores natural areas and monuments, and operates seasonal beaches, pools and other recreation centers. In total, DPR is responsible for about 29,000 acres of land and facilities. The Department has a total of approximately 7,250 employees. DPR also works in conjunction with neighborhood and citywide groups like Partnerships for Parks, the Central Park Conservancy and the Prospect Park Alliance to maintain the City's parks and park programs.
