The Department of Sanitation (DSNY) is responsible for the collection, management, recycling, and disposal of municipal solid waste throughout New York City. It also enforces the compliance of sanitary codes and street codes by collecting derelict vehicles and issuing tickets for violations. In FY09, the Department plans to undertake extensive infrastructure development for the Solid Waste Management Plan, which is the City's main long-term waste disposal plan. The Department is divided into Bureaus, including: Long Term Export, Financial Management and Administration, Cleaning and Collection, Waste Disposal, Motor Equipment, Building Management, and Waste Prevention, Re-use and Recycling.
