The Public Library System operates through three independent systems - the Brooklyn Public Library, the New York Public Library and the Queens Borough Public Library. All of the branches offer free access to books, periodicals, electronic resources, and non-print materials. The libraries also offer internet access, cultural and recreational programming and career services. The collections include 400 electronic databases and about 65 million books and other reference items.
