What your money funds:
This program funds health care services for youth in DJJ facilities.
- Before March 2008, the Health and Hospitals Corporation of NYC provided medical services for DJJ. Since then, DJJ has contracted with The Floating Hospital. The Floating Hospital was founded in 1866 as a hospital on a boat with a mission to help the poor. Now, the hospital works in poor communities, City shelters and with the DJJ.
- According to DJJ, in FY08, when youth were admitted to the system, 99% received a medical screening within 24 hours of admission.
- According to DJJ, in FY08, it cost the City approximately $85 a day per youth for general healthcare services. Of the youth detained by DJJ, 83% received mental health services in that year, up from 67% in FY07.
