What your money funds:

This program is responsible for fielding emergency calls from the public and responding to public need in emergency situations. The program provides service and support to the NYPD's telephone and radio communications system, the "911" emergency call-taking center, police radio dispatching, emergency command post vehicles, radio communications controls, and various forms of electronic and telephone equipment necessary for the functions of the NYPD.

  1. Employees direct and control emergency calls for police, fire and medical assistance by dispatching the appropriate department as fast as possible.
  2. According to the NYPD, the department's overall average response time to crimes in progress was seven minutes and eighteen seconds in FY08. The average response time to critical crimes in the same year was four minutes and three seconds.
