What your money funds:
The Housing Bureau is responsible for reducing crime in NYC public housing by developing and implementing crime control strategies. The Bureau patrols 1,567 public housing units within 176 housing developments and maintains nine Housing Police Service Areas.
- This Bureau addresses public safety issues by reporting and developing new programs that are targeted at making New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) properties safer places.
- According to the Department, in FY08, there were 4,686 major felony crimes in housing developments.
