What your money funds:

The Internal Affairs Bureau is responsible for investigating allegations of corruption and serious misconduct against members of the NYPD and for upholding the ethical compliance standards of the Department.

  1. When a civilian makes a complaint about a member of the New York City Police Department, the complaint goes to the Internal Affairs Bureau. The complaint is then reviewed and sent to the proper investigation unit.
  2. When the investigation of a complaint reveals that the charges are true, the Police Commissioner may reprimand the employee, take away vacation time, suspend the employee, or demote and terminate the employee.
