What your money funds:
The Internal Affairs Bureau is responsible for investigating allegations of corruption and serious misconduct against members of the NYPD and for upholding the ethical compliance standards of the Department.
- When a civilian makes a complaint about a member of the New York City Police Department, the complaint goes to the Internal Affairs Bureau. The complaint is then reviewed and sent to the proper investigation unit.
- When the investigation of a complaint reveals that the charges are true, the Police Commissioner may reprimand the employee, take away vacation time, suspend the employee, or demote and terminate the employee.
