What your money funds:
This program is responsible for funding overtime for NYPD employees. The federal and state governments, as well as other private funds, have historically reimbursed a percentage of the NYPD's overtime costs. Typically, uniformed and civilian NYPD employees receive overtime for various reasons, including special holidays and events.
- The amount above is reimbursed through a memorandum of understanding, a grant or other contracts for services provided for special programs and initiatives. Some of the federal initiatives include: The Urban Areas Security Initiative, Gang Resistance Education Training, and Project Safe Neighborhoods.
- Other overtime costs are covered by the City's own funding. In FY08, the federal and state government contributed close to $60 million in overtime funds. However, in this FY09 budget, it will only contribution $15 million.
