What your money funds:

This program is responsible for funding overtime for NYPD employees. The federal and state governments, as well as other private funds, have historically reimbursed a percentage of the NYPD's overtime costs. Typically, uniformed and civilian NYPD employees receive overtime for various reasons, including special holidays and events.

  1. The amount above is reimbursed through a memorandum of understanding, a grant or other contracts for services provided for special programs and initiatives. Some of the federal initiatives include: The Urban Areas Security Initiative, Gang Resistance Education Training, and Project Safe Neighborhoods.
  2. Other overtime costs are covered by the City's own funding. In FY08, the federal and state government contributed close to $60 million in overtime funds. However, in this FY09 budget, it will only contribution $15 million.
