What your money funds:

Neighborhood Development programs are designed to assist areas in enhancing business or shopping districts. Each Borough has a Neighborhood Economic Development Program, which is funded through the contracted services budget.

  1. Business Improvement Districts (BID): Provides retail assistance and improve physical conditions in neighborhoods. A BID is a formal organization made up of property owners and commercial tenants who work to promote business development and improving an area's quality of life.
  2. There are currently 60 BIDs in NYC that provide over $82 million in services to more than 70,000 businesses annually.
  3. In FY08, BIDs were created in Sunnyside (Queens), Southern Boulevard (Bronx), and 5th Avenue (Brooklyn).
  4. Contracted Services include: This budget item funds contracts with economic development groups, printing expenses, and professional computer services.
  5. Other Services include: City Council funded projects, office services, overnight and daily travel, and advertising for the department.
