What your money funds:

Workforce programs include Workforce 1 Career center, program management, training, and the Workforce Investment Board.

  1. Workforce 1 Career Centers: Provides job placement assistance, career advisement, and referrals to skills training for NYC residents. In 2007, the six career centers served 80,364 customers altogether, and placed New Yorkers in 1,500 jobs just through these centers. In 2008, a seventh center opened in Hunts Point.
  2. Training Programs: These are for adult jobseekers and dislocated workers, and include services obtained under individual training grants.
  3. The Workforce Investment Board: WIB oversees the federally funded workforce programs that assist the City's workforce by promoting an increase in the employment, job retention, earnings, and occupational skills improvement of participants. It provides workforce development services to jobseekers and employers through Workforce 1 Career Centers and NYC Business Solutions Centers. WIB is made up of volunteers who are appointed by the Mayor, and includes representatives of local businesses, educational institutions, labor unions, community-based organizations, and other government agencies.
