What your money funds:
The HIV/AIDS Services Administration (HASA) funds social and financial services for NYC residents with AIDS or advanced HIV illness and their families. These services include case management, transitional and permanent supportive housing, vocational rehabilitation, and homemaking services.
- HASA clients receive ongoing case management services to assist them with their daily living and health needs. A client is assigned to a specific case manager at one of 12 neighborhood centers based on the location of the client's New York City residence. HASA counselors are tasked with providing assistance with access to cash assistance, Medicaid, food stamps, housing, employment services and vocational services. They also provide access to counseling and burial planning.
- According to HRA/DSS, as of November 2008, they had 31,500 clients with HIV'AIDS. Only about 3% of these clients earned income and 36 of them participated in work training programs that month.
- As of November 2008, the Bronx and Brooklyn had the two highest numbers of clients. The majority of the clients throughout the City were male adults (approximately 65%) and female (approximately 34%). Youth were about 1% of the population being assisted.
