What your money funds:
The Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) provides summer employment and educational experiences for youth between the ages of 14-21. Participants work in a variety of entry-level jobs at government agencies, hospitals, summer camps, nonprofits, small businesses, law firms, museums, sports enterprises, and retail organizations.
- In FY08, 41,804 individuals participated in SYEP. They were paid for up to 25 hours a week at $7.15 an hour.
- According to DYCD, about 55% participants are female and 45% male.
- 70% of participants are African American and Hispanic.
