What your money funds:
The DOC works with the Department of Health to provide health services to inmates who demand hospitalization and greater medical attention. The City maintains the following facilities:
- Secure facilities at Elmhurst Hospital, for female inmates requiring psychiatric care, and at Bellevue Hospital, for male inmates requiring psychiatric or medical care.
- The North Infirmary Command on Rikers Island houses detainees with less serious medical problems and persons with AIDS not requiring hospitalization, as well as high security inmates.
