What your money funds:
This program is tasked with providing services to avert the need for children to enter the foster care system and to discharge children from foster care to their families at a faster rate. Preventive services can include family or individual counseling, parenting classes, substance abuse treatment, domestic violence intervention, home care, support for pregnant and parenting teens, and other services. Some of the parenting services are offered in the subdivision program "Preventive Homemaking Services."

- According to ACS, in FY08, the median time for children in foster care eventually returned to their families was 9.3 months.
- According to the City, in FY07, 29,298 children received care from preventive service providers. In FY08, 30,809 children received care from these programs.
